Rod
Murphy Jr.
The directorial debut
of Rod Murphy, Greater Southbridge was fueled by his longtime attraction
to people who fall outside the spectrum of "normal." After college, Rod
and his wife Gina explored various nooks and crannies of the country like
Priest Lake and Salmon, ID; Pinedale, WY; Los Angeles and Salt Lake City.
His diverse resume includes: Production Assistant; US Forest Service Fire
Firefighter; Assistant Biologist; Slaughterhouse janitor; Mental Health
Case Worker; Professional studio audience member and Highway Department
Trash Picker. Rod and his wife, Gina, have two lovely children.
Scott
B. Morgan
For over 5 years, Scott's
been a senior staff editor for a production division of Fox Television
Studios in Los Angeles. He's churned out nearly two dozen A&E Biographies,
plus a myriad of documentaries and specials for The History Channel, Fox
Family Channel, and American Movie Classics. He's directed several independent
shorts and a music video or two and is currently finishing his own documentary,
shot in the Nepalese Himalayas in late 2000. He's still best recognized
by family and friends alike, for his 1995 cameo as the family-slaughtering,
wall-of-flames-silhouetted flashback of Keyser Soze in The Usual Suspects.
The
Murphy Twins
Ursula and
Kate are the director's twin sisters who played various roles from Greater
Southbridge's early beginnings and will no doubt continue to its bitter
end. Producer Kate Murphy was editor in chief of the now defunct and sorely
missed Mashmagazine.com.
She is currently producing the independent feature film Urban
Playground and is co-writing 6:14
Production's next project. She lives and works in Los Angeles. Associate
Producer Ursula Murphy took a more "behind the scenes" approach to life
and has done nothing of significance besides incite riots at My Brother
Zebulon shows and achieve some form of legitimacy by working at the
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Her New Year's wish is to never have to deal
with festival submissions ever again.
John
Hunt
A one-time Rick Linklater
(Slacker,
Waking Life)
and Mike Judge (Beavis
and Butt-head, King
of the Hill) intern, John is the Music Supervisor for GS and has been
instrumental in the development and eventual distribution of Greater
Southbridge. He hopes to be "left alone" in the future. He is the
front-man of the critically acclaimed Austin, Texas band Fivehead.
Justin
Earls
Justin Earls was born and raised in Southbridge where he and Rod were
childhood friends. He graduated from Providence College and later attended
different graduate programs before settling back in his hometown. Justin
then entered the service industry where he has since pushed the profession
of bartending into new, unseen and obscene levels of excellence. Being
a shameless pop culture junkie and connoisseur of odd humor, Justin was
uniquely qualified to be Rod Murphy's foil for the Greater Southbridge
film project. He contributed in all aspects of the project's production,
but most importantly as Rod's co-conspirator, pushing forward in situations
where Rod felt apprehension. Justin lives in Southbridge, where he still
frequents the streets and hot spots of his youth and enjoys the town's
local characters.
Gina
Buscaglia
The magnificently versatile
wife of Rod, Gina is a karate enthusiast, mother of 2 and reigning queen
of word association snafus. An animal lover extraordinaire, Gina is a
docent at the Roger Williams Zoo in Providence, RI and her love of animals
has led to numerous family pets. Her position in Rod's life as muse and
partner in crime makes him what he is today. She is glorious in all ways.
Jerry,
"Mr. Southbridge"
Having moved to town
12 years ago, Jerry has quickly endeared himself to the residents of Southbridge.
This 45 year old, 6'5", 270 lb, can-collecting, speech impaired local
is well known across the community. Jerry is a voracious reader, a hard
worker and genuinely kind. He is passionate about female musicians, local
politics, music videos, supporting the local police force, applying excessive
amounts of postage on his outgoing mail, and petitioning the Massachusetts
State House to expand the bottle redemption bill to include all juices,
ice teas, waters and sport drinks.
Wayne
"The Lone Wolf"
This long time Southbridge
resident has a unique and often offensive opinion about everything from
the Kennedys to Britney Spears. This sometimes charming, sometimes abrasive,
53 year old has survived major brain surgery after going through the windshield
in of his truck several years ago, but claims he was "wacko" before the
accident. Wayne boasts having a 12th degree black belt given to him by
Chuck Norris and a purple heart from Colin Powell for his military service
in the Green Beret's Bomb squad during Vietnam ('they called me the lone
wolf back in Nam'). He also claims to have knowledge of several mafia
related conspiracies involving Frank Sinatra and Paul McCartney among
others. Wayne passed away in early February 2005 and he is sorely missed
by his family, friends and all of us here at 6:14 Productions.
Steve,
"Southbridge's bad boy"
A South Boston transplant,
this 30-something, ex-con is struggling with a drug addiction that provokes
many run-ins with the local authorities. He sings the praises of the highly
addictive oxycontin, which he allegedly traffics as well as uses*.
Steve is not shy about voicing his disenchantment with Southbridge and
its police force. He recently had another close call with an overdose
and he is awaiting a trial that could send him back to prison. He
hopes to marry soon, move out of the area and have a 'little Stevie Jr.'
* This information is alleged and not proven to be truth, Greater Southbridge
does not support or condone drug use.
Harry
"Abe Lincoln" Shaw
Harry was the town
of Southbridge's most recognizable character, not only because he bore
a striking resemblance to Abraham Lincoln, but also for his warm hearted
demeanor. He was a friend to all who took the time to know him. Having
lived in Southbridge for 30 years, Harry worked most of that time at Harrington
Memorial hospital in the Environmental Services Department. He was known
for his infectious smiles, jokes, hugs and his devotion to his wife. He
loved the town of Southbridge, his coworkers, his stove pipe hat and having
a beer with the regulars at the 'time out lounge'. Harry passed on at
the age of 64 during the filming of this movie, and will be missed by
all. Greater Southbridge is dedicated to his memory.
John
"Dr. Doolittle" R.
This 50-something Southbridge
resident was born in upstate New York and moved to Southbridge four decades
ago. His great love for animals has made him infamous for taking in strays
and he has an ever-growing family of cats, dogs, ferrets, parrots, fish
and more. John R. is a devout Catholic who enjoys long drives with his
wife, constructing shrines out of his religious paraphernalia collection
and firing off his many antique cap guns.
Kenny
A."Dracula" a.k.a. "Heroine man" a.k.a. "Jesus"
A relatively recent
and well travelled addition to the Greater Southbridge landscape,
Kenny is a recovering alcoholic/drug addict who has lived in Boston, ME,
NH, CT and up and down the west coast. At some point (he's not exactly
sure when) he spent 2 years wandering aimlessly in the Arizona/Nevada
desert during a prolonged acid trip. He's also spent time in rehab centers
and institutions before settling in Southbridge. His age is up for debate
because he's not sure of the exact year and place of his birth. Kenny
has a rambling wit about him and can expound on many different topics
if in the right coffee/cigarette-induced mood. Although life has dealt
him some hardships, Kenny seems to know his place and can be very endearing
when given the chance. He currently hopes to start up a business with
his brother, working on cars and motorcyles.
